Quick Tips That Will Teach You Do Your Homework Effectively

You can do your homework better and faster if you organize your preparation and working process according to the simple rules below.

Preparation

• Make sure that your working place is quiet and has as few distractions as possible.
• Get all things you will need. Bring all your copybooks, pencils, rubbers, rulers, etc. to your desk before you start. This way you will not be distracted by the need to look for them in the middle of doing your assignment.
• Turn off any distractions. Close the door of your room, switch off your TV and mobile phone. If you are unsure that you can resist the temptation to check your text messages every hour, give your phone to a family member and ask them to keep it until you finish.
• Make a list of assignments to be done tonight. Write down the due date, the word or page count, and the most important guidelines by your teacher for each one. Cross out the ones you complete.
• Check whether you fully understand each assignment. If there are any questions to be clarified, put this one aside until you sort it out with your tutor. It is better than doing it a wrong way and then having to revise.
• Prioritize your assignments. Consider three things: their deadline, their difficulty, and their value. It is better to begin with the most urgent, the most difficult, or the most valuable tasks.

Working Process

• Concentrate on a single task at a time. Proceed to the next assignment not until you have completed the previous one. Trying to do many jobs simultaneously may reduce your concentration and result in a great number of mistakes.
• Take breaks. No one is able to stay focused for hours without a bit of rest. Spend 45-50 minutes studying, then pause for 10-15 minutes. With your mind refreshed, you will work more effectively.
• Control your time. Set a timer and work on your assignment until it goes off. You may also use the timer to prevent procrastination during breaks. Do not let them become longer than necessary.
• Do not hurry. However strong is your wish to get done with your homework as fast as possible and enjoy the well-deserved rest, remember that rushing through your assignments will make your work slipshod. In the end, you may spend more time correcting, revising, and redoing than if you did it properly from the very beginning. Therefore, take your time to deal with each assignment carefully.
